John,

It's been 10 days since the oil spill off the coast of Huntington Beach. We're continuing our work getting to the bottom of what happened and preventing spills like these from ever occurring again. Here are some updates:

• The House Natural Resources Committee is currently probing this oil spill. We're getting the facts, including why operators waited hours to shut down the pipeline even after low pressure alerts. We are also working on banning new offshore drilling off the coast and improving the transparency and accountability of the oil and gas industry.

• On Monday I gave an interview to shed more light on the statewide response to this oil spill. I also discussed legislation I've introduced to ban offshore drilling off our coasts. You can watch it here >>

• Thousands of voters and activists in California and beyond have joined our call for a ban on offshore drilling along our coast. The momentum to make this happen is growing, but we still need more voices to help amplify our cause.

There's still time to join our effort to put an end to drilling off our coast. If you haven't yet, sign on to become a citizen cosponsor of the American Coasts and Oceans Protection Act today >>
