Friend,
From droughts to destructive megafires to devastating floods, the fossil-fueled climate emergency is already disrupting millions of lives. All of us are feeling the impact, but Black, Indigenous, and brown communities are hit first and worst.
Frontline communities like mine are already living in the midst of a climate emergency. We don't have time to wait: We must urgently stop fossil fuel production to avert further catastrophe.
So this week, Indigenous leaders and allies across the country have come together in D.C. for a week of protests and civil disobedience to demand President Biden declare a climate emergency and stop approving fossil fuel projects.
So far, hundreds of community leaders have been arrested as part of the historic People vs. Fossil Fuels week of action. Can you show up in solidarity with activists on the ground by amplifying their demands on social media?
Share now on Twitter and Facebook:
Due to generations of environmental racism, Black and Indigenous communities tend to live near fossil fuel production, where we are forced to breathe heavily polluted air—which can result in serious health harms, including cancer. Our communities cannot wait.
Indigenous people, pipeline fighters, water protectors, young people, scientists, faith leaders, and more are saying: Enough is enough. President Biden must leverage his executive power and use his existing authority to immediately declare a climate emergency and stop fossil fuel expansion.
Declaring a climate emergency can open up doors to transform our extractive, systemically racist economy to one that’s just and renewable.
And the Biden administration could immediately stop 24 fossil fuel projects, which would respect Indigenous sovereignty and prevent annual greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 400 coal-fired plants.
The climate crisis will affect future generations, but its devastation is also here and now. That’s why we’ve got to act NOW.
Please amplify demands from Indigenous leaders and representatives of frontline communities by posting on social media:
