Right Now!!
It has been a busy fall at FairVote Minnesota! Our staff and volunteers have been out in force educating voters in the five cities using Ranked Choice Voting this fall. Just this past weekend, we were at six different events in Bloomington and Minneapolis telling voters about their local elections and making sure they know how to RANK THEIR VOTE!

Election Day!
Election Day is less than 3 weeks away, and early voting is already underway. We need to ensure voters are educated and that the ranked-choice elections in Bloomington, Minneapolis, Minnetonka, St. Louis Park and St. Paul go as smoothly as possible. If you would like to join our voter outreach and education efforts, sign up here [[link removed]] . There are lots of ways you can help -- from tabling at community events, to phone banking, to knocking on doors. And whatever time you have, we can accommodate your schedule.
We are organizing an exciting get-out-the-vote effort on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 2 ! We need volunteers to help educate voters outside of polling locations in Minneapolis and Bloomington and answer any questions about RCV and how to rank their ballots. Sign up here and help us ensure every voter has all the information they need to rank their vote [[link removed]] ! Of course, we will be in touch to provide training, a voter education script and everything you need.
Ranked-choice Elections: Winning Requires a Broad Coalition
In addition to educating voters about RCV, FairVote MN also educates the media about ranked-choice elections and how they work. Our second media memo to educate the press, candidates and other interested parties on RCV elections is hot off the presses this week [[link removed]] ! You can read our first media memo covering how RCV works, Minnesota’s experience with RCV, and FairVote MN’s education efforts here [[link removed]] .
There can be a tendency by the media and even by some candidates to treat a ranked-choice election like any other, but it’s not. And candidates who use the same old campaign tactics do so to their detriment. Candidates earn votes and win differently in ranked-choice elections, and accordingly, should campaign differently. RCV requires winners to earn majority support (or winning threshold in multiseat races), and that requirement has several important implications for campaigning effectively and winning in a ranked-choice election. Read about the importance of building a broad coalition, refraining from negative attacks, voters ranking and candidates seeking second and third choices, and RCV’s impact on ballot measures in our second media released just this week [[link removed]] .

Fall Events!
We had a successful wine tasting for democracy hosted by Erin and Mitch Zamoff on their beautiful outdoor patio. Thank you to everyone who came and learned about the power of RCV. And a special thanks to Senator Melisa Franzen and Representatives Heather Edelson and Steve Elkins for joining the event, speaking about RCV, explaining its importance for democracy in our state, and for their leadership on democracy reform at the Capitol.
The hosts committed to raise $10,000 to advance RCV at the legislature and elect pro-democracy legislators in 2022 and made it halfway to their goal! You can help them reach this goal by donating now at fairvotemn.org/2022 [[link removed]] .
For those of you who could not make it, we would like to share Sen. Franzen’s marching orders: “Share [RCV] with your neighbors...and help us beat that drum because this is what’s going to help us.. move forward in politics.”
Senator, we agree 100 percent!

October Brew Fest
If you missed the wine tasting or if you prefer hops, you’re in luck! We have a special Rank Your Brew for Democracy event this Sunday, Oct. 17 at 4:00pm to support Ranked Choice Voting!
RSVP Here [[link removed]]There's no better way to learn about Ranked Choice Voting than by sampling and ranking your favorite Utepils beers! You’ll get an update from Fairvote Minnesota on how we can pass RCV statewide, and from our local legislators on how they are helping to make that happen! And, of course, come learn all you need to know about the elections in Minneapolis and surrounding cities using RCV for local elections this fall.
We couldn’t be more excited to host this fun event, and we hope you’ll join us!! See details below and RSVP at fairvotemn.org/RankYourBrew [[link removed]] . Space is limited at Utepils’ semi-open air event space -- so please don’t wait to register, and for the safety of all, we are respectfully requesting that all guests be fully vaccinated.
[[link removed]]And of course, there are many events taking place across the metro educating voters about RCV! Brian Bosire and Jeanne Massey will join a Ranked Choice Voting Webinar hosted by African Career, Education and Resource, Inc. (ACER) with Reps. Ilhan Omar and Dean Phillips, and Secretary of State Steve Simon this Thursday, October 14 at 7pm! You can join via Zoom: [link removed] [[link removed]] or Facebook Live [[link removed]] .
