Providing everyone who lives in cities with clean drinking water would cost $141 billion over five years – but unsafe water and inadequate sanitation costs roughly 10 times that much. Likewise, improving transportation infrastructure and land management can save low-income commuters over a third of their spent income, lower air pollution and provide access to more jobs.
You are invited to join WRI and global, city and community leaders to explore win-win solutions for more equal and sustainable cities.
Seven Transformations for More Equitable and Sustainable Cities is the culmination of a six-year research effort revealing a new vision for urban development based on what works from cities around the world. We find that income and GDP can no longer be the sole measures of poverty and a city’s success. And we show that improved access to core services like water, sanitation, energy, transport and housing for the urban under-served can lead to citywide prosperity and sustainability.
