Dear John,
Since the start of the pandemic, I've been a strong supporter of the safe, effective and free COVID-19 vaccine, and have consistently encouraged Montanans to talk to their doctor and get vaccinated.
While I’m pro-vaccine, I’m anti-mandate. I believe President Biden’s vaccine mandates are a massive government overreach and will hurt Montana businesses. I’m also concerned that this type of government intrusion could further increase vaccine hesitancy.
That's why on the floor of the U.S. Senate, I voted to stop taxpayer dollars from being used to implement these mandates. I’m disappointed to say that every Senate Democrat opposed this measure.
In the Senate, I'm also cosponsoring two bills that would protect Montanans and business owners from Biden’s overreaching vaccine mandates.
While COVID-19 vaccines will help us get back to normal, Montanans should not have to choose between their jobs and personal healthcare decisions. The "Prohibiting Forced COVID-19 Vaccination Act" would ensure that nothing in federal law provides authority for a COVID-19 vaccine mandate.
Especially as we continue to face labor shortages, business owners shouldn’t be forced to fire their valuable employees. The "No Taxation Without Congressional Consent Act" would prevent the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) or other agencies from imposing any sort of financial penalty on businesses or individuals that choose not to comply with a COVID vaccine mandate
My pro-vaccine, anti-mandate mentality is shared with Montanans across the state. Hear from Tom Simkins, co-owner of Simkins-Hallin Lumber in Bozeman, on how these mandates would hurt his employees and business.

As your voice in the United States Senate, I will continue encouraging Montanans to talk with their doctor about getting a COVID-19 vaccine, and I’ll also continue fighting back against big government overreach and mandates from the Biden administration that will hurt Montana businesses.
Sincerely,
Senator Steve Daines
