20 Days Until Election Day! (Tuesday, November 2)

Hello dear readers! We are officially 20 days from the 2021 Election! (YES! THERE IS AN ELECTION THIS YEAR!)

If you haven't received them by now, you should be receiving your ballots shortly! There are a number of ballot initiatives to vote on (local and statewide), and there are races for school board and city council to vote in!

There are a lot of candidates to vote for! And they're running for local offices that may impact you more than Congress, the U.S. Senate, or even the Presidency! It's your local city council offices, Mayoral offices, and School Board offices! Republicans would love nothing more than to rebuild their bench by electing unqualified, right-wing activists to these offices, and we need to turn out!

So click here to make sure your voter registration is up to date, keep an eye out for your ballot, and VOTE!

It may be an off-year election, but for Summit County students, it’s more important than ever. This year, 9 candidates are running, some of whom won’t answer basic questions on topics important to our community. Support these four candidates who have proven experience fighting for what’s best for kids, parents, educators, and taxpayers.

Dem Campaign Updates!

Phil Weiser tops $525K for 3rd quarter, has $2 million in bank

Colorado Politics

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser doesn't yet have a Republican challenger, but the Democrat's re-election campaign has more than $2 million in the bank. That's after hauling in just over $525,000 in the most recent fundraising quarter, according to his campaign manager.

Weiser, a former dean of the University of Colorado law school and Justice Department official in the Obama administration, has been burying off-year fundraising records for a Colorado attorney general candidate and has topped $500,000 in receipts each quarter this year.

From Colorado Politics: U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet raised more than $2 million in the third quarter of 2021 for his re-election bid, the Colorado Democrat's campaign said Tuesday. The total set a new personal best for Bennet's fundraising in an off-year quarter… “Michael’s campaign is off to a historically strong start, with grassroots donations from each one of Colorado’s 64 counties,” Bennet campaign manager Justin Lamorte told Colorado Politics in a statement. He added that 94% of Bennet's donations for the quarter were small dollar contributions under $200 and pointed out that Bennet is the only incumbent senator running in 2022 who isn't taking contributions from corporate political action committees and federal lobbyists.

Michael gained three new Republican challengers this month including two wealthy real estate developers who have pledged to self-fund their campaigns. Michael is taking a stand against big money in politics and we know Mitch McConnell and dark money groups will pour in millions to defeat him and flip the U.S. Senate. Michael is counting on grassroots support from Coloradans to fight back!

Redistricting Update

The Independent Legislative Redistricting Commission advanced their final State House map for Colorado Supreme Court approval! As a reminder:

Welcome Joeana!

We would like to extend a warm welcome to Joeana Middleton, who was just announced as Congresswoman Diana DeGette's new Chief of Staff!

From Colorado Politics:

U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette on Tuesday named a new chief of staff for only the second time since the Denver Democrat took office nearly 25 years ago. Joeana “Jo” Middleton, DeGette's former deputy chief of staff and district director, takes over the top position from Lisa Cohen, who has run DeGette's office since her first term in 1997.

“Jo’s passion for helping others and serving her community is second to none,” DeGette said in a statement.

We would also like to take a moment to give a heartfelt thank you to Lisa Cohen, Congresswoman DeGette's longtime chief of staff who has been in the office since 1997. Lisa has been a strong fighter for Democratic values on the Hill, and has seen it all!

She has served as a source of wisdom for Colorado Democrats over the years, and we wish her the absolute best!
