Rental Repairs Facebook Live Event on Friday, October 15th at 12 PM
This live event discusses tenant rights, responsibilities, and available resources now that the CDC eviction moratorium has ended.

What if a landlord refuses to repair a home? Should they withhold rent? Can the tenant break their lease? Should they make the fixes themselves?

ALSC's Housing team will be answering these and other questions at the Rental Repairs Facebook Live Event on Friday, October 15th at Noon.

** Coordinated Entry & Shelter
------------------------------------------------------------
Family Emergency Shelter
Families that are unsheltered are encouraged to call 2-1-1. From there they will be given a referral to either Safe Harbor or Clare House depending on current vacancies. If no vacancies are available the family will get a referral to the Aviator or Aspen Hotel. This is a temporary solution to help families in need.

Case Conferencing and Coordinated Entry (CE) Training
If you have any questions, or are interested in coordinated entry access point ([link removed]) training for you or your team, please contact Mac Lyons at: [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]?subject=o%09Case%20Conferencing%20Meetings%20%26%20Coordinated%20Entry%20Access%20Point%20Training)

There will be no vaccination or testing clinics this week with VISIT Healthcare due to scheduling issues. However, the Providence Hospital Community Health Workers will be joining outreach this Friday to assist unsheltered clients with Medicaid and Food Stamp Applications, as well as offer medical attention and minor cut and wound treatment.

On Tuesday, October 12^th, we will be hosting a Single Adults Case Conferencing meeting where providers can discuss resources and potential avenues of assistance for clients with unique barriers, as well as discuss best outreach practices for any clients that have received a recent referral.

Please be advised that there will be no outreach on Monday, October 18^th in observance of Alaska Day!

Reminder: The next Outreach Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 20^th at 10 AM.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day

"In celebration of Indigenous Peoples' Day, we’d like to introduce you to one of our Covenant House Alaska ambassadors, Jacquii with a Cue from Kotzebue. We have asked her to share her perspective on Indigenous Peoples' day because we believe fully in using our platform to spark conversation and spread awareness around our mission to ending youth homelessness. As a fact, more than half the youth at Covenant House Alaska are Alaskan Natives, and it is our duty and honor to shed light on the rich history of Alaska." - via Jessica Bowers, Covenant House Alaska

Interim Final Rule Requires Public Housing and PBRA Tenants to Receive ERA Information in 30-Day Eviction Notices
HUD published an interim final rule ([link removed]) in the Federal Register on October 7 that applies when there is a national emergency such as the current pandemic and when federal funding is available to assist tenants in public housing and properties with project-based rental assistance (PBRA) who are facing eviction for nonpayment of rent. The interim final rule will allow HUD to require providers of public and PBRA housing to give tenants facing eviction for nonpayment of rent at least 30 days’ notice before a tenant must vacate a unit. That notice must give tenants information about the availability of federal emergency funding intended to prevent evictions. In addition, PHAs must provide all public housing tenants information about the availability of federal emergency rental assistance. HUD will publish notices providing details about the content of required tenant notifications. Comments are due by November 8, the day the
interim final rule takes effect.
