As a young prosecutor in the Bay Area, I dealt with the trauma of gun violence on a regular basis.
I have seen more autopsy photographs, attended more police officer funerals, and hugged more mothers of homicide victims than I care to tell you.
If lawmakers taking money from the NRA had to see the body bags and the autopsy photographs I’ve seen, if they had to speak to the families I’ve spoken to, I would have to think they would vote their conscience. That they would vote for justice.
But I’m done waiting for them to find their courage.
On my first day as president, I will give the United States Congress 100 days to put comprehensive gun legislation on my desk. If they fail to have the courage to act, I will. Add your name next to mine if you’re ready for immediate action on gun violence »
If Congress fails to act, here are the immediate actions I will take as president to tackle gun violence:
- Mandate near-universal background checks by requiring anyone who sells five or more guns per year to run a background check on all gun sales.
- Revoke the licenses of gun manufacturers and dealers that break the law and take the most egregious offenders to court.
- Reverse President Trump’s dangerous change to the definition of “fugitive from justice,” which has allowed thousands of fugitives with outstanding arrest warrants to buy guns.
- Close the “boyfriend loophole” to prevent dating partners convicted of domestic abuse from buying guns.
If you’re with me in this mission to combat gun violence and end the NRA’s influence in Washington, I need you to add your name next to mine today »
Thank you for raising your voice in this moment.
