It's officially spooky season...
And Friends, we're frightened by the fact that Minnesota charges $21.50 for ID cards (a license is even more expensive) with no fee reductions for veterans or people who are homeless. Those aged 65+ get a $.75 discount.
Why is this an issue? Per the United States Census Bureau's 2019 American Community Survey, 276,686 Minnesota residents, or 6.4% of the 18 and older population, are military veterans. As of January 2020, Minnesota had an estimated 7,940 people experiencing homelessness on any given day, as reported by Continuums of Care to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
We know that these groups are the least likely to possess valid ID, and the least likely to be able to access/afford it. In fact, that's why we founded Project ID Action Fund.
