It seems public safety is often seen as just policing, prosecution and incarceration.

But, like health care is more than hospitals, public safety is more than policing, prosecution or incarceration.

Check out this recent opinion piece ([link removed]) that talked about how just cleaning up and creating green spaces has lowered the homicide rate in communities.

In fact, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania's Urban Health Lab observed up to 29% declines in gun violence in areas they helped clean up and green up!

We need a holistic approach to public safety, and we need leaders who are going to implement such an approach.

As the next Polk County Attorney here in Iowa, I will partner with our neighbors, our universities, urban farmers, gardening groups, and other community organizations to help develop green spaces and clean up our neighborhoods, especially those that are under-resourced.
