Victory in the Fight to Keep Seven-Year-Old James Younger from Being Transitioned into a Girl

By: Jim Daly

By now you’ve likely heard that earlier this week, a Lonestar state jury ruled in an 11 to 1 decision that James Younger, the son of Jeffrey Younger, be transitioned due to the preferences of his non-biological mother, Dr. Anne Georgulas.

Simply put, officials had, in essence, mandated that a seven-year-old boy be put on puberty-blockers, pumped up with cross-sex hormones and eventually surgically castrated against the will of his father.

Thankfully, we received word on Thursday that the judge presiding in the case overruled the jury and granted joint custody to both the mom and dad. The judge also ruled that they must both agree on medical treatment for James.

This is great news. However, it’s unfortunate that this was an issue in the first place.

Life Begins at Fertilization: 96% of Liberal, Pro-Choice and Non-Religious Biologists Agree
By: Zachary Mettler

A new study has found that 96% of biologists believe that life begins at fertilization.

Steve Jacobs began the study as a part of his dissertation for his Ph.D. at the University of Chicago’s department of Comparative Human Development. In a recent article he published in Quillette, Jacobs revealed his findings. He also relayed the backlash he’s received from pro-abortion advocates after publishing his study.

In his study he, “emailed surveys to professors in the biology departments of over 1,000 institutions around the world.” The results determined that the vast majority of biologists believe that life begins at conception. Jacobs writes, “I found that 5,337 biologists (96%) affirmed that a human’s life begins at fertilization, with 240 (4%) rejecting that view.”

This finding is even more stunning since the vast majority of the biologists surveyed were liberal, pro-choice and non-religious. “The majority of the sample identified as liberal (89%), pro-choice (85%) and non-religious (63%). In the case of Americans who expressed party preference, the majority identified as Democrats (92%).”

Overriding Obergefell: Tennessee Group Launches Plan to Restore Marriage to the States
By: Zachary Mettler & Bruce Hausknecht

It’s been four years since the Supreme Court mandated that states grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples. After the court’s decision in Obergefell vs. Hodges, conservatives seemed to roll over and accept defeat. There’s been no concerted effort to push back against the Obergefell decision. Until now.

The Family Action Council of Tennessee has a plan to retake the power to define marriage out of the hands of nine unelected, unaccountable judges and return it to the states where it belongs.

In Obergefell, the court held that if a state licenses a marriage between a man and a woman, the Fourteenth Amendment requires a state to license a same-sex marriage.

Yet nothing in the decision required states to license marriages in the first place. The states still get to make that determination.

Three Courts Rule on Abortion This Week

By: Bruce Hausknecht

Courts in California, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania have all issued decisions this week in cases involving abortion. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals blocked the new religious exemption to the Obamacare contraceptive mandate, an exemption designed to protect faith-based organizations from furnishing possible abortion-causing drugs in company health plans. The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals followed up on its recent “sidewalk counseling” opinion in the Pittsburgh case with a similar one involving Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. And an Oklahoma judge temporarily blocked a state law requiring doctors to advise women undergoing a chemical abortion process that it can be reversed before the process is completed.

Northern Ireland is Now Required to Legalize Abortion and Same-Sex Marriage
By: Brittany Raymer

The relationship between Northern Ireland and England is complex. Technically part of the United Kingdom, this small northern corner of the island of Ireland has some political autonomy from Westminster. But due to a government stalemate, abortion and same-sex marriage have been legalized there after members of Parliament passed a measure in London. It is a sad end to one of the most conservative abortion laws in the world and will likely put a strain on a historically troubled relationship.

The passing of legislation to legalize abortion and same-sex marriage by politicians in London is likely going to ruffle some feathers, especially since it was done while the territory struggles to form a cohesive government.
