When oil spills like this happen, they don’t just destroy the local ecosystems and wildlife. They create a devastating ripple effect that cripples local economies, our environment, and communities. But let us be clear: This spill - and all the oil spills that have come before it - didn’t happen in isolation. Just like our ongoing droughts and wildfires, these oil spills are a direct consequence of our reliance on fossil fuels. And they highlight our urgent need to transition to clean energy sources. We must pass bold climate legislation now - including both the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Build Back Better Act. And here in California, we must continue to pressure our state legislature to stand up to corporate polluters and pass far-reaching climate and clean energy legislation. The California Legislature once again failed to pass any major climate policies this session. Polluting industries are far too influential on some of our current leaders. The future of our planet hinges on what we do right now, at this moment. So please support our mission by making a gift right now to stop oil spills like this and help us hold Big Oil accountable → We know that if we stand united, we can create a better future for all of us. Let’s get to work. In solidarity, Mike Young Political & Organizing Director California Environmental Voters (formerly CLCV) |
