The White House has just announced a proposal to revoke parts of a Trump-era rule that completely gutted the implementation of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), one of the most damaging and far-reaching environmental decisions of the Trump years.

This is huge. NEPA is the law that requires environmental impact studies for projects like pipelines, highways, and drilling on public lands ? and gives affected communities the chance to give input on these projects.

Biden's restoration of NEPA's environmental review and analysis of alternatives to the project will help give these and other marginalized communities a fighting chance to fight back against environmental racism and to protect their families and property. But more changes are needed to level the playing field.
