Hi John,
Have you seen our urgent request? Today, the UK Environment Bill will be reviewed by the House of Lords, and on October 20th, it’s headed back to the House of Commons. This is a critical time to strengthen the bill and ensure the UK is not complicit in forest destruction. Will you join over 60,000 supporters and call on Boris to strengthen the Environment Bill?

The UK Environment Bill is a piece of legislation that, if passed, will help protect nature – including forests, water and air quality – both at home and abroad. While a welcome step forward, the draft proposal has several major gaps that means Greenpeace and many other groups are extremely worried that it won’t actually tackle deforestation, and could even make matters worse. [1]
So please help us put pressure on Boris Johnson and his government to strengthen the Environment Bill - all you need to do is sign the petition: [link removed]
Thanks for all you do,

Hi John,
We have an urgent request. In a new push to protect forests worldwide, we’re calling on Boris Johnson and his government to strengthen the Environment Bill—this includes banning all agricultural commodities linked to deforestation from entering the UK.

On October 20th, the House of Commons will begin to review a final round of amendments to the existing bill. This is a critical time to push the government to tighten the legislation and prevent products linked to deforestation from entering the UK, including soy, beef, palm oil, cocoa, coffee and rubber.Current UK government proposals for a deforestation law in the Environment Bill aim only to ban products linked to ‘illegal’ deforestation, defined according to local laws. This leaves the door wide open for products linked to ‘legal’ deforestation and incentivises producer countries to legalise even more. [1]
While the Environment Bill is debated in parliament, the Amazon and other important forests are under unprecedented attack. Agricultural expansion is once again driving burning. 2021 has seen some of the worst fires in history, with potentially catastrophic consequences for the integrity of the Amazon biome and the survival of its Indigenous Peoples. [2] By allowing products linked to deforestation to enter the UK, Boris Johnson and his government are fuelling the fires raging in forests across Brazil. Will you call on Boris Johnson to strengthen the Environment Bill and ensure the UK is not complicit in forest destruction?

As President of COP26 and host of the conference, the UK has a unique opportunity to demonstrate global leadership and play an exceptionally important role in setting the global environmental agenda. The UK can also have a big impact as a major consumer and financier of commodities linked to deforestation.Sign the petition demanding Boris Johnson show leadership ahead of the global climate conference by strengthening the UK Environment Bill: [link removed]
Thanks for taking action,
