People For supporter, Last week, People For's Right Wing Watch uncovered and publicized a video[1] from this June in which North Carolina Lt. Governor Mark Robinson insisted that Christians must take control of public schools in America because children are being abused by being taught "filth": "There's no reason anybody anywhere in America should be telling any child about transgenderism, homosexuality, any of that filth. And yes, I called it filth." This video was picked up by various news outlets, including the Associated Press, Yahoo News, and The Raleigh News Observer,[2] and has led to growing calls for Robinson's resignation. This type of hate speech has absolutely no place in our political dialogue, so please add your name to our petition calling on Mark Robinson to resign his office immediately. Click here to sign the petition: Lt. Governor Robinson should resign immediately. >> Lt. Governor Robinson is, of course, free to hold whatever beliefs he wants, but as the senior elected Republican in North Carolina, his comments are reprehensible and have no place in our political discourse. LGBTQ+ and transgender Americans have borne the brunt of hate speech, discrimination and physical violence for many years; yesterday, in fact, marked the 23rd anniversary of the death of Matthew Shepard -- a gay American who was beaten and left for dead outside Laramie, Wyoming. Hateful and dehumanizing rhetoric like Robinson's, which has become all too commonplace from far-right leaders these days, only adds fuel to the fire that leads to more violence against our fellow Americans. Add your name: Click here to tell Lt. Governor Robinson to resign. >> Thanks in advance for your participation in our campaign, and we'll continue keeping an eye on the far-right's extremism and calling out their radical and hateful views. In community, Will Easton, People For the American Way
