As part of the Build Back Better Act, President Biden proposed $5 billion for Community Violence Intervention (CVI) programs to combat gun violence in America. This historic investment would ensure local, on-the-ground organizations in communities disproportionately impacted by gun violence have the resources they need to reduce gun death and injury through an evidence-based, public health approach.

But here’s the thing: Parts of the Build Back Better Act are being debated in Congress right now, and we have to make sure the $5 billion for CVI doesn’t get put on the chopping block. Research tells us just how effective this investment will be. In Richmond, California, gun homicides reduced a whopping 71% between 2007 and 2016.
