We recognize their work and sacrifice as partners to the federal government and to our U.S. military and veteran communities. That’s why in partnership with Rose Community Foundation and the Governor’s Office, The Colorado Afghan Evacuee Support Fund was created. The Fund is fiscally sponsored by Rose Community Foundation, and works to ensure that Colorado is prepared to welcome Afghan evacuees and connect them with community resources. Contributions will fund grants to organizations in Colorado that provide refugee resettlement services, health and mental health services for newcomers, legal services to help evacuees navigate available pathways for permanency in the U.S., and other forms of needed assistance. This fund represents a holistic view of needs that newcomers will have over the long term and commits resources to areas where other funding mechanisms fall short. To help support the fund, visit the link below. You can be assured that your funds go to a vital service currently neglected by other efforts, making your dollars all the more impactful. DONATE: bit.ly/COAfghanSupport To learn more about Afghan evacuees, visit the Department of Human Services' Colorado Refugee Services Program website. To complement our economic recovery efforts, we also continue pushing forward to ensure that as many Coloradans as possible are getting the lifesaving vaccine. The vaccine is our path to economic recovery, and we are proud to have 77% of eligible Coloradans vaccinated with at least one dose and 71% of Coloradans fully vaccinated. First and second doses of the vaccine are our ticket out of this pandemic, but booster shots are going to play an important role of their own in preventing disease transmission and keeping our communities safe. More than 6% of Coloradans have received vaccine boosters already, including my 77 year old parents. In the coming days, we expect to get more guidance from the CDC about boosters for Moderna and Johnson & Johnson recipients, meaning that soon even more Coloradans will be eligible. We also expect that in the next couple of weeks vaccines will be approved for 5-11-year-olds, giving us the opportunity to protect some of our most vulnerable and make our classrooms even safer for students and staff. Colorado stands ready to administer those vaccines as soon as they are approved. The more Coloradans who get vaccinated, the less likely we are to see more cases, hospitalizations, and deaths. We all have an important role to play in ending this pandemic, and it’s going to take all of us working together. BOOSTER ELIGIBILITY We are focused on building a stronger Colorado by protecting our communities and investing in real, transformative change. That means helping our workforce move forward and supporting our small businesses across the state who are working to recover while investing in the competitive advantage we have in Colorado with our natural beauty and quality of life that attracts business and top talent to the state. During the historic 2021 legislative session, we partnered with Colorado legislators to make significant investments in our economy that will give Coloradans the freedom and opportunity to thrive now and for generations to come. This includes investments in our small businesses, support for our main streets across the state, broadband expansion, job growth, and so much more. But now as we are working to implement this landmark legislation and bolster economic growth, we are also turning toward the next phase of recovery. In the coming months, Colorado will have the opportunity to allocate the remaining American Rescue Plan Act Funds from the federal government and are working closely with legislators, local governments, community leaders, industry leaders, and many others to do so. These investments are focused on four main areas for transformational change, including behavioral health, affordable housing, workforce development, and economic recovery. KERSEY TOWN HALL Recently I visited the Kersey Town Hall. The new Town Hall constructed in Kersey was an important improvement to Main Street and an initial step in revitalizing Downtown Kersey. Our administration provided a $1 million DOLA Energy and Mineral Impact Assistance Grant toward construction of a new Town Center, which includes rehabilitation of a historic building for a new Town Hall/Police Station, and outdoor public gathering space, and will serve as an anchor to help revitalize Downtown Kersey. FUEL & IRON IN DOWNTOWN PUEBLO Several weeks ago, I visited Fuel & Iron in Downtown Pueblo. The project is an adaptive reuse of the Holmes Hardware Block that will include a food hall and restaurant incubator, 28 affordable housing units, an acre devoted to an urban farm, events space and performing arts space, and roughly a half-acre dedicated to additional housing with a child care center in Phase II of the project. The Colorado Community Revitalization Grant Committee reviewed the application on September 14 and is considering funding this project at the level of $1 million.
