The Kurt Schork Awards in International Journalism
The Kurt Schork Awards in International Journalism celebrate the debt we owe to brave journalists who work hard - often at great personal risk - to report on conflict, corruption and injustice. Now in their 20th year, the Awards are named in honour of American correspondent Kurt Schork, who was killed in Sierra Leone while on assignment for Reuters in 2000.
The three Award categories recognise the journalists most admired by Kurt: freelancers, local reporters and news fixers. Their work is often poorly paid, mostly unsung and frequently fraught with danger.
