Recent polls show that at least 83% of Americans support the U.S. government negotiating with pharmaceutical companies to lower drug prices. Why is it so hard to turn this hugely popular policy into law?
The short answer: Big Pharma is one of the most powerful lobbies in Washington. By funneling high-dollar campaign donations through PACs, they're able to block drug pricing reforms that would hurt their bottom line.
Since launching our first campaign for Congress, Ro’s refused to take a single penny from PACs or lobbyists. Big Pharma spends more on lobbying than any other sector. And it’s paying off. Drug companies continue to rake in massive profits, even as 18 million Americans report being unable to afford a prescription medication.
This Democratic-controlled Congress has a mandate from the American people to lower prescription drug prices—and right now we have a chance to pass this policy by including it in the Build Back Better plan. We can’t let special interests win out.
