Team, our outstanding representative, Congressman John Yarmuth, just announced he is retiring, and I am excited to share with you that I’m running to make sure Kentucky doesn’t have an all-Republican delegation in the House. I’m about to ask you to chip in $5 and become a Founding Donor of my campaign, but first I want to explain:

As the Democratic Leader of the Kentucky Senate, I’ve led many fights against the worst of the Trump-style madness in Frankfort. And from attacks on a woman’s right to choose to banning mask mandates, there’s been a lot of fighting back recently.

But I’m even more proud to have passed more than a dozen bills through the Republican Supermajority -- including making real progress on marriage equality, domestic abuse and clean energy -- proving it’s possible to defend progressive values while building coalitions to move things forward.

Now, I’m running to be our state’s only Democratic voice in the U.S. House of Representatives and fight in Washington for things that need federal action -- like ending generational poverty, fighting global warming, codifying Roe v. Wade, protecting the sacred right to vote, and reforming our criminal justice system (starting with legalizing and taxing marijuana).

Our campaign set a goal to bring in 1,000 Founding Donors in the first 72 hours. We’re thrilled with the progress we’ve made so far, but we still need 542 more to reach our goal. Can I count on you to chip in $5 to become one of the campaign’s Founding Donors?

I’m going to take on Mitch McConnell in Washington . . . as his congressman.

I’ve proven I can do it. I’ve already been elected in McConnell’s literal backyard -- I’m his state senator -- and have led the fight against his tactics as the Democratic Leader of the Kentucky Senate. We’ve had some success too -- passing bills to reform our criminal justice system, and we’ve actually expanded voting rights in Kentucky. Now I’m ready to do the same in Washington.

Early fundraising is essential in a race like this one. If we’re going to take on the GOP machine in Mitch McConnell’s home state, we have to get off to a strong start. We need to ensure we can properly fund all aspects of this campaign, from digital ads to on-the-ground organizing. That’s why I’m asking for your help.

All eyes are on whether this campaign can keep KY-03 blue and push back against Mitch McConnell on his home turf. Will you step up and chip in $5 to be one of our Founding Donors?

McConnell-style politics are hurting our future. We can’t wait any longer to have a clean planet, affordable health care, strong public education, universal pre-school and affordable childcare, the unimpeded right to vote, and freedom from discrimination. I’ve made progress against McConnell in Kentucky; I need your help so we can fight back against how he does things in Washington . . . starting in his backyard.

Thank you,

Morgan
