John,
Though Latinx Heritage Month is coming to a close, we’re not
quite done yet.
This month we’ve partnered with HBCU Palante to bring a wide-ranging look at the African Diaspora, honing in on intersectionality -- specifically, those of Latinx descent.
That’s why we’re beyond excited to invite you to Breaking Barriers Para Puentes, our Latinx Heritage Month webinar taking place tomorrow, Wednesday, October 13th from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm EST! Click here to snag the zoom link.
Tomorrow’s webinar will be a discussion on Latin/e/x experience in different industries, voicing for cultural concerns, highlighting complexities of their heritage, and societal integration. The discussion will hone in on the intersectionality of the African Diaspora and Latin/e/x in the United States.
Topics of tomorrow’s webinar include dialogue on language, as words get lost in translation; what it means to be Black in Latin/e/x homes, as well as identifying categories (Latino/a/x/e, Hispanic, Chicano/a.)
Historians often attempt to erase the African Diaspora in Latinx culture. Those that identify as Afro-Latinx understand the complexities of their heritage as both African and Latinx persons.
It is important to highlight this distinction because Afro-Latinx people are part of the Black experience both individually and collectively, which is why we’re beyond excited to dig deeper into this topic at tomorrow’s webinar. Be sure to save the zoom link for tomorrow’s webinar here.
In love and solidarity,
