Hi,

Here's what's actually in the Build Back Better Act -- and what right-wing Democrats are trying to weaken or remove entirely, according to CNN:1

Everything in both columns is very popular with the public. It's the agenda Joe Biden won the White House with in 2020, and progressives like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Pramila Jayapal want to make sure that Congress passes it into law.

But a tiny group of right-wing Democrats, including Joe Manchin, Kyrsten Sinema, Josh Gottheimer, and a few others, are working with corporate lobbyists to stop the Build Back Better plan. They already cut the plan from $6 trillion down to $3.5 trillion. Now they want to go further -- and take away things like dental coverage for seniors, affordable housing, affordable child care, and free community college.

Will you speak out now in this crucial moment? Sign the petition and tell Congress to pass the entire $3.5 trillion Build Back Better plan, including climate action and health care Americans desperately need!

If right-wing Democrats get their way and weaken the reconciliation bill, they will not only undercut millions of American people but the very promises Democratic leadership -- including the president -- made when negotiating these priorities.

Not enough Americans know what's in this bill. It would provide the American people critically important and potentially transformative things like:

  • Ensuring all kids have access to early childhood education through universal pre-K.
  • Providing more Americans with the health care we need through Medicare expansion.
  • Making critical medicine accessible by lowering prescription drug prices.
  • Tackling the urgent threat of a warming planet through bold climate action.

This is the agenda Americans chose in 2020. And it's massively popular with the public.2 Members of Congress must hold Biden, Pelosi, and Schumer to the promise they made to the American people and get this done.

Why would any Democrat oppose it? The large contributions they've received for mega-corporations who don't want to pay the higher taxes that are included in this plan may have something to do with it.3

Together, we can send a clear message to members of Congress that the people's agenda will not be swept aside or silenced.

Sign the petition: Congress must pass the full $3.5 trillion Build Back Better agenda!

Thanks for taking action,

Robert and the team at Demand Progress
