Team --
Former Georgia district attorney Jackie Johnson has been charged with violating her oath of office and obstructing the arrest of the men who murdered Ahmaud Arbery in 2020.
Ahmaud was on a jog in Glynn County, Georgia when Travis and Gregory McMichael and William Bryan chased him in two separate vehicles at gunpoint. They shot and killed Ahmaud, who died trying to defend his life.
Jackie Johnson is accused of directing the police not to arrest Travis McMichael and for showing "favour and affection" to the suspects. This grave mishandling of justice is why we started The Collective's Justice For All Initiative.
Through the Justice For All Initiative, we are working to close the representation gap of Black leaders serving as sheriffs, judges, attorneys general, and district and state's attorneys and to boot unfit leaders like Jackie Johnson OUT of office. If you're with us in the fight for criminal justice reform, support our efforts by chipping in $5 or whatever you can now.
Our country has two systems of justice. One where Black people are assumed guilty until proven innocent, and another where white folks are assumed innocent until proven guilty (and often even when found guilty, they get to walk away with minimal sentencing!)
For nearly three months, Ahmaud's murderers got to walk free with zero repercussions for their crimes. We have to reform the laws, lawmakers, and law enforcers to root out corruption and rebuild our government so that it serves ALL people.
Right now, 95 percent of elected prosecutors are white. Through the Justice For All Initiative, we are fighting to change that. Will you support our efforts? Rush a donation today.
