John,The recent oil spill off the coast of Orange County in southern California that spewed up to 126,000 gallons of oil is a sharp reminder of offshore drilling dangers.
The spill resulted from a broken pipeline leading to beach closures. Oil is also seeping into coastal wetlands, home to migratory birds. Permanent damage to the wetlands is likely.
SEEC Members are rightfully blasting Big Oil in the wake of this environmental disaster. SEEC Member Katie Porter helped lead the way by saying: “Big Oil's offshore drilling puts the health of our communities, our local economies, and our planet at risk. Cleaning up this spill is not enough; we need to stop these disasters from happening in the first place.”
John, can you let SEEC members of Congress know you have their backs as they work to prevent disasters like these by making a donation today? [[link removed]]
DONATE $20.22 [[link removed]]The lasting damage of the southern California oil spill is likely incalculable. It is not just the harm done to the beaches but also the marine animals, migratory birds, and wetlands.
Holding the fossil fuel industry fully accountable is essential. Congress, the federal government, and California must investigate the cause and effects of 126,000 gallons of oil on the environment to prevent a disaster like this from happening again.
John — who we have representing our interests in Congress matters. The pipeline spill is impacting communities in California’s Orange County, including in areas that used to be represented by former SEEC member Rep. Harley Rouda. Sadly, he was defeated in 2020 by Republican Michelle Steel who has a very strong relationship with fossil fuel interests.
This disaster shows more than ever that we need pro-environment SEEC members fighting in Congress. Will you make a donation to help us elect them today? [[link removed]]
