Each year, the Law Center honors and celebrates leaders who raise awareness about and advance solutions to homelessness and poverty. The prestigious awards are presented to innovative change-makers who are fighting for a future where everyone has a place to call home.
Today, we will join together to honor author Jessica Bruder, director Chloé Zhao, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, and the law firm Sullivan & Cromwell. In addition to hearing from our incredible honorees, we are honored to be joined by the incomparable LA CAN Freedom Singers.
The Freedom Singers are members of the Skid Row community who are or were houseless and who have, in some way, used their art to heal. The ensemble breathes new life into the music and sounds of the human rights struggle, and provides a rebuff to the harmful narratives that Skid Row residents face. The Los Angeles Community Action Network(LA CAN) was formed in 1999 to provide myriad services for the Skid Row community, in areas such as legal assistance, housing, and civil rights.
Join members of the LA CAN Freedom Singers, National Homelessness Law Center Staff and Board of Directors, and our esteemed honorees as we celebrate shared efforts to end homelessness. We look forward to seeing you tonight on Zoom and Facebook Live!
