John,
The Trump Organization, which is under indictment for tax fraud and falsifying business records, should be suspended from doing business with the government.
Today, CREW, the Project on Government Oversight and government contracts expert Professor Steven L. Schooner sent a complaint to the federal officials responsible for suspending or debarring federal contractors. Read more here.
It is standard practice for the government to suspend contractors under indictment, and it does so for this and other reasons thousands of times each year—in many cases, for much less serious issues than the charges facing the Trump Organization. And, of course, this summer’s indictment is far from the first incident of serious misconduct. The Trump Organization is facing a civil suit for overcharging the Trump inaugural committee for space at the Trump Hotel in DC, and has paid multi-million dollar settlements in recent years to address claims of fraud and serious misconduct.
Suspending the Trump Organization from doing business with the federal government is one step towards accountability for its extensive misconduct. Federal officials should act quickly.
Thank you,
