If you doubt one person can make a difference, let me remind you about Ms. Lola. A self-described ‘lunch lady’, Ms. Lola was at the epicenter of the pandemic-caused hunger crisis. She and her team worked tirelessly to get food to the thousands of kids who depended on school meals every day to fill their bellies.
The challenge was relentless. Every day she saw “parents suffering, and kids sleeping in the cars, waiting in line to get service.”
Ms. Lola still remembers a woman arriving with two young children. The woman began to weep. “I lost my job today,” she said. “And my husband is hospitalized with Covid. How am I gonna feed my kids?” One of the children reached forward from the back seat to give her mom a hug.
“Ma’am, you don’t need to worry about food,” Ms. Lola assured her. “You can come here.”
And this was in part, due to your support of No Kid Hungry’s work. It took all of us to get hungry kids through the worst of the pandemic. And it’s going to take all of us — pitching in one by one — to end childhood hunger once and for all.
