The days are getting colder. And thankfully, so are states’ attitudes toward the Trump administration’s request to hand over citizenship data! Trump previously attempted to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census, which was stopped by the Supreme Court. The U.S. Census Bureau then submitted a formal request to try and restart its discriminatory agenda, but states aren’t having it. As of Wednesday, the vast majority of state motor vehicle agencies have declined to share their records with the Bureau.

We need more public officials to stand up against these kinds of xenophobic attacks and protect the privacy and rights of #PeopleLikeUs!

Stay
Woke

The federal Supreme Court is failing us.

Despite outcry from #PeopleLikeUs and allies, the Court gave a free pass to electoral thieves by wiping out a previous ruling preventing partisan gerrymandering in Michigan. This decision makes it easier to sway elections and restrict our power and ability to create a more inclusive democracy. However, there is somewhat of a silver lining: gerrymandering claims can still be heard by state courts. Let's make sure we have the right judges in place to protect our democracy. To do this, #PeopleLikeUs need to stay woke and vote!

Help fight systemic white supremacy by supporting our mission to get more women, immigrants, and underrepresented Americans on the ballot and into power.
Every week, we deliver one key positive story to warm your heart, a negative story to keep you vigilant, and an action you can take to help build a more progressive, representative democracy.
