John,

Today was the first day of the People vs. Fossil Fuels mobilization in DC, the week of civilly disobedient protest to demand President Biden declare a climate emergency, and stop all fossil fuel projects we’ve been telling you about.

Today was amazing – more than 500 people marched together in solidarity and song to bring our message to the White House. When some of our crew, led by indigenous elders and ‘aunties’ from across turtle island, refused to disperse or recant our demands – 135 were arrested in peaceful protest.

Share the links and posts below to support us wherever you are, and make sure to follow our hashtag #PeoplevsFossilFuels all week on twitter, instagram, facebook and all other social media. It’s also not too late to come to DC and join me in nonviolent civil disobedience to demand an end to fossil fuels!

Come to DC and participate in civil disobedience to tell President Biden: Build back Fossil Free!

When President Biden ran for office he promised to “make tribal sovereignty and upholding our federal trust and treaty responsibilities to Tribal Nations the cornerstones of federal Indian policy.” Once elected, he said, “The federal government has long broken promises to Native American tribes who have been on this land since time immemorial,” and promised to move in a new direction.

Biden has broken his promises. He failed to stop the Line 3 tar sands pipeline that was in direct violation of treaty rights. He failed to stop drilling on “public” lands, all of which are originally Native lands and many of which border tribal areas. He defended drilling in the Arctic, which threatens Native communities across the region.

That's why thousands of people are taking action this week. People are coming to send a powerful message to President Biden: if you're serious about tackling the climate crisis, you must do everything in your power to stop fossil fuel projects.

See you tomorrow,
