Iran's Threat To America
The Islamic Republic of Iran is an existential threat to Israel. The Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has repeatedly vowed to annihilate the Jewish state. It is financing Hamas and Hezbollah, and staging attacks against Israel from Syria.
Iran is also a threat to other Muslim states in the Middle East, as last month's devastating attack on a Saudi oil facility demonstrated. And Iran is a threat to Europe as its repeated terror plots continue to be uncovered. (Here, here and here.)
But we must never forget that Iran calls America "the Great Satan," and Iran remains a serious threat to the United States. Don't take my word for it. Just pay attention to what the supreme leader is saying.
At a recent ceremony for officers of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, Ayatollah Khamenei urged his followers to be prepared for martyrdom in the fight against America. Here's what he said:
"There are those who say that Imam Hussein [grandson of Muhammad] acted in order to rise to power. . . There are those who say that he acted in order to become a martyr. I say that he acted in order to fulfill his duty.
"However, while fulfilling one's duty, there is the possibility that one will rise to power, and there is nothing wrong with this. There is also the possibility that one will become a martyr, and there is nothing wrong with this, either.
"The most important thing is to fulfill our duty. This is what the Islamic Republic is facing. This is the reason that we do not give up in our resistance to America. . ."
In response to the supreme leader's words of "encouragement," the IRGC officers chanted:
"We roar: Death to the American government! Death to America! We are the conquerors of Jerusalem and the destroyers of Haifa! Death to Israel! [We are] on the path to conquer Palestine! [We are] at war with a faithless enemy! . . . We are Hussein's soldiers!"
