Hi Revealer,

Launching Oct. 16, “Mississippi Goddam: The Ballad of Billey Joe” is our new podcast series about race and justice in America.

With a title inspired by Nina Simone’s civil rights anthem, we weave the history of the criminal justice system with the case of Billey Joe Johnson Jr., a Black high school football star who died in 2008 during a routine traffic stop with a White police officer in Mississippi.

Over seven episodes, we will examine how police handled the investigation. And we’ll take a long look into America’s cracked foundation, where justice isn’t equal for everyone.
