John,
This headline says EVERYTHING about why we need to continue to elect more DAs who will undo decades of corrupt, racist, and abusive practices that have harmed so many.
Let me break this down for you real quick, ok??
The New York Times reported that for the past FOUR DECADES, police killings have been undercounted by more than half.
More than HALF — with, of course, a hugely disproportionate effect on Black people.
THOUSANDS of people who were gunned down by the people allegedly sworn to protect them.
THOUSANDS of families torn apart.
THOUSANDS of names we’ll never know because of the corrupt, racist, justice system that kept them from ever being brought to light.
One of the only positions of power that can actually change course on this behavior and ensure accountability is the DAs office.
We NEED more DAs who will hold the police accountable for their actions and bring justice to people who have been wronged by this terrible system. The work we do at Real Justice is EXCLUSIVELY devoted to support and electing DAs who are redefining what it means to be a district attorney.
I mean it when I say this and I know I say it often — but the work we are doing at Real Justice is changing LIVES.
This report only makes it more clear. We have SO MUCH more work to do and we can’t do it alone. I’m so grateful you’re with us.
Appreciate you,
Shaun
