Today is National Coming Out Day, a day where we support and celebrate people who come out as LGBTQ+. National Coming Out Day is about supporting our LGBTQ+ friends, family, and neighbors and recommitting to the fight for equality.

I was proud to serve as the treasurer for the successful campaign for marriage equality in Rhode Island in 2013, before the Supreme Court guaranteed the right nationwide. Since then, we've made even more progress on anti-discrimination laws as a state.

Rhode Island was founded on a tradition of freedom and tolerance. Because of the generations of activists who paved the way, today Rhode Island has followed through on that promise by becoming a state where discrimination on the basis of gender identity and sexuality is outlawed in the workplace, public accommodations, housing, and employment, and conversion therapy is illegal.

Rhode Island has made important progress and been a leader on equality, but we still have work ahead to achieve full, lived equality for all LGBTQ+ Rhode Islanders.

As governor, I will always fight to protect rights for all LGBTQ+ Rhode Islanders. Join me in celebrating National Coming Out Day by adding your name to commit to the fight for equality for LGBTQ+ Rhode Islanders.
