If the pandemic has taught us anything, it is that our mental health is deeply affected by the world around us. And for millions of girls, COVID-19 disruptions have also led to dropping out of school.
These two things are so intertwined.
For girls struggling with mental health issues, schools offer a refuge. In fact, UNICEF’s recently released 2021 State of the World’s Children report found that school-based interventions have been linked with improved self-esteem and emotional regulation, reduced anxiety and depression and overall better well-being.
The numbers don’t lie — keeping girls in schools is crucial to creating a better world and future for all of us, yet far too many are denied the basic right.
This International Day of the Girl, ask your members of Congress to cosponsor and pass the bipartisan Keeping Girls in Schools Act, which is designed to remove barriers to an education for girls around the world:
