Dear John,

Today we recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day and Columbus Day across the country. This is a time to reflect upon the history of our nation, both our accomplishments and our shortfalls.

I work every day in Congress to strengthen our agricultural communities and protect the most vulnerable, including members of the Creek and Cherokee nations who have lived right here for centuries. Every person deserves a fair chance at success and happiness, and that begins with correcting historical inequities.

We cannot change the past, but we can change our present, and in turn we will build a brighter future.

Together,

Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr.
