Dear friend, Today is International Day of the Girl, a day to celebrate the strength of girls around the world and advocate for their rights. At Mercy Corps, we care about helping girls reach their full potential — and we see it in action across the world. In Nepal, girls are creating a future of possibility. Over the past year and a half, school closures resulting from the COVID‑19 pandemic have exacerbated education challenges and pressured many Nepali girls to return to household duties or marry early. Working together to break the cycle of educational and economic inequality, Mercy Corps partners with parents, teachers, and community leaders to connect girls to education, opportunities, and resources.
Mercy Corps programs support the education of marginalized girls in Nepal, resulting in improved literacy and national standardized testing outcomes. Classes use a student-centric, personalized approach.
All-girl classrooms provide students with a safe and comfortable learning environment where they can focus on their lessons and receive dedicated time from their teachers. The specialized approach helps girls succeed in their exams so that more of them can pursue higher education. For girls whose circumstances have forced them to leave school early, we offer customized programs to increase access to other opportunities. We connect girls to financial literacy training, business skills development, sexual and reproductive health education, and vocational training. Deepa participated in this program five years ago, and today she employs 15 women in her successful garment manufacturing business.

We appreciate your interest and your commitment to gender equality, education, and youth development. Your support helps us connect girls with programs like the ones in Nepal, so they can make the most of their opportunities and their lives. Thank you, The Mercy Corps team |
