Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day and we are honored to be in solidarity with our partners in the Amazon, every single day. Although the rainforest and its people are facing multiple threats, we are guided by the victories and resilience we witness in Indigenous communities. We know that their power will ultimately protect the Amazon and our Mother Earth.
We founded the Amazon Defenders Fund (ADF) on the principle that radical solidarity requires a mass mobilization of funds from the global north to the global south, directly to the peoples and places that are written out of traditional philanthropy. The ADF has sent hundreds of grants to Indigenous allies across the Amazon – well over a million dollars a year for direct support for community organizing, women’s leadership, mobilization, urgent COVID-19 support, and climate disaster relief!
We know generosity is already part of who you are as part of this community. Please join us today in honoring Indigenous peoples, however you are able by taking action, making a donation, and learning about and amplifying the principles of the Amazon Defenders Fund.
In all our work, we remain grounded in Amazonian ancestral knowledge that guides Indigenous peoples’ strategies and ultimately our solidarity grantmaking and program work.
Here are three ways you can practice your solidarity today:
100% of every donation goes directly to our program work to protect and defend the Amazon.
Thank you for being a part of our community!
