On this Indigenous People's Day, we, at the ACLU of Northern California, invite you to join us in our commitment to Indigenous Justice.
We encourage you to download, print, and proudly display <[link removed]> the ACLU of Northern California's land acknowledgment poster. The stunning artwork was created by Yurok/Washoe/Filipino artist, Jackie Fawn, and a team of our staff – in consultation with over a dozen tribes throughout our region – developed the land acknowledgment statement.
We acknowledge that the ACLU of Northern California exists on the occupied territory of over 100 tribes. This land has been stewarded by Indigenous people since time immemorial.
The painful history upon which the state of California was founded, and the policies, systems, and structures that continue to oppress and erase Indigenous peoples today compel each of us to engage in learning, and take steps to repair the harm of the past and support a future in which Indigenous communities can thrive.
The ACLU of Northern California is committed to working alongside Indigenous peoples – and following their lead – as they work to uphold their sovereignty, dignity, and identities.
