Dear John,
Today is International Day of the Girl! Today and every day, we at Ipas are committed to helping build a world where every girl has the right to choose her own path in life.
In Bolivia, girls have always faced more challenges than boys, and those challenges—like sexual violence and unwanted pregnancy—have grown more widespread during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fortunately, one of the most effective ways to combat these challenges is also very simple and doable: offer age-appropriate and evidence-based sexuality education to all young people, beginning in childhood. When girls are empowered with accurate information about their own bodies and health, they’re more likely to be able to pursue their dreams. We’re working to do just that.
In partnership with the Bolivian government, we’ve produced resource kits for teachers nationwide that include videos, comics, informative brochures and teachers’ guides—all focused on preventing sexual violence and unwanted pregnancy. Students across the country in primary and secondary schools are now learning about these crucial topics!
You can help us spread the word that comprehensive sexuality education is proven to help prevent unwanted pregnancy among young people—despite what lawmakers often think. Please check out and share this infographic on Instagram.
And if you’d like to support our work to expand girls’ access to sexuality education in Bolivia and other countries around the world, please consider a donation to Ipas today in honor of the girls and young women in your life.
Warmly,
Malena
