Dear Colleague,

The latest issue ([link removed]) of the Clearinghouse’s quarterly research digest ([link removed]) provides abstracts of articles from the peer-reviewed literature on male circumcision, with a focus on voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) for HIV prevention. This issue covers articles published from 1 July to 30 September 2021.

Links are provided to either the abstract online or the full text of articles that are open access. For additional information on VMMC, search the Clearinghouse’s Resource Library ([link removed]) .

Featured Articles

* A project ([link removed]) at a hospital in Malawi found that integrating VMMC recruitment and follow-up in clinics offering sexually transmitted infection and antenatal care services was an effective strategy for promoting uptake of the facilities’ VMMC services among men ages 15 and older.
* A survey ([link removed]) in four counties in western Kenya revealed that VMMC prevalence was above 75% among men ages 15–29 in each county but lower than previous estimates, providing reference data for more accurate estimates and targets.
* In an intervention study ([link removed]) , the quality of VMMC services improved significantly after the implementation of continuous quality improvement activities at 40 health facilities in four provinces in South Africa.

Other abstracts featured in the digest address the impact of VMMC on HIV incidence in sub-Saharan Africa, the prevalence of male circumcision in Mozambique, the use of human-centred design for VMMC demand creation in Zimbabwe, and South African health care workers’ perceptions and understanding of VMMC.

Best regards,

Clearinghouse Webmaster
