John,
I am writing to you because the election for Mayor this November will determine the future of Portland. We can continue to have divisive politics and missed opportunities, or we can give voice to a new leader that will work collaboratively to move our community forward.
During the past four years, Spencer Thibodeau has grown into a leader and public servant who will put Portland residents first, and I think he is the right choice in this election. He will be able to move policies forward immediately, given the significant support he has among City Councilors and the community. He will make sure that all of Portland’s residents are heard.
In fact, during his time on the Council he has helped make Portland a leader in Maine by advancing progressive policies.
Due to Spencer’s hard work on environmental issues as chair of the Sustainability and Transportation Committee, Portland’s municipal operations will run on 100% renewable energy by 2040. Additionally, he oversaw the implementation of the City’s first solar energy farm. Spencer was also a key advocate in support of Portland’s pesticide ordinance, one of the strongest in New England.
Spencer has been a strong supporter of our school system and efforts to protect tenants’ rights and build more affordable housing.
Finally, he has been a leader in the development of better transportation policies. During his time on the Council, he worked to build the City’s first protected bicycle lane and promoted efforts to increase regional transportation planning.
This election is important and your support will make a difference.
That’s why I am asking for you to help Spencer become the next mayor. Please make a DONATION or VOLUNTEER on the campaign.
Thank you,
—Michael
