John -- A new redistricting forecast by the Brookings Institution predicts that in states where the GOP controls the process, Republicans are well-positioned to gerrymander enough congressional seats to grab the majority in the House of Representatives.

Even though census data shows there’s been a population decline in more conservative areas and growth in suburban and urban areas, some states that are gaining seats are controlled by Republicans who have shown their intention to gerrymander.

This alone could provide a pathway for Republicans to obtain a majority in the House. They’re in control of the redistricting process in states with new seats like Texas and North Carolina -- and we know they’ll play dirty!

“In state capital after state capital, district by district, the battle is on. Expect to see a replication of some of the hardcore tactics that Republicans perfected during the post-2010 redistricting.”-- Elaine Kamarck, Founding Director of the Center for Effective Public Management

We cannot allow Republicans to repeat their 2011 map manipulating playbook by cementing their current gerrymanders and building off of them to create new ones. That’s why our team is asking you: will you make a one-time donation of $20.11? Your donation will help us work to ensure the final maps accurately reflect the people they represent.

In places like Texas and North Carolina, we’re already witnessing conservative map manipulators work on gerrymandered preliminary congressional maps.

The Texas State Senate just voted to pass gerrymandered congressional maps that have ZERO competitive districts and are at odds with the most recent census data. And states like North Carolina seem to be taking notes. Republican lawmakers there are workshopping maps that dilute the political power of communities of color by cracking and packing districts.

The stakes couldn’t be higher -- and the consequences of failure will be felt for at least a decade. That’s why we’re counting on you to stay engaged with us throughout the process.

We can win this fight and stop the GOP from gerrymandering again if we speak up!

Donate now as states like Texas and North Carolina continue to draw, release, and vote on gerrymandered maps. Your contribution will help us raise our voices in the fight for fair maps.

Thanks,
The AOTL Team
