What We’re Reading

Indigenous Landings. In Alaska, the village of Newtok is sinking into melting permafrost <[link removed]>, forcing residents to evacuate before rising water swallows their homes. On Navajo land, an investigation reveals a company that won a cleanup contract <[link removed]> for abandoned uranium mines has a questionable past.

Facebook is certainly banking on it, though, as it spends millions of dollars on the 'Facebook unit' of the Menlo Park police <[link removed]>, effectively buying its own force, and it's also buying its own media with an expansion of its news section <[link removed]>.

These are the stories <[link removed]> of some of the immigrants who call these gloomy settings home, accompanied by stunning images.
