Folks,
Six months ago, Congress passed and President Biden signed the historic American Rescue Plan into law.
We’re still seeing just how impactful this legislation has been as the Department of Education approved Nevada’s Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) plan, freeing up $358 million in pandemic relief funds to go directly to our schools.
This is monumental for students who have been affected by COVID-19 and families who have been worried about school preparedness. Having spent my career in education before coming to Congress, I know just how tough this pandemic has been on them.
Rest assured, our state has the funds to do everything it can to keep our kids safe and healthy while reopening our schools.
Many parents are already seeing the impact of school being back in session safely thanks to ESSER: unemployment is going down, financial stability is on the rebound, and bills can be paid with enough leftover for groceries.
I was proud to vote for the American Rescue Plan and looking at how our students and parents are benefiting directly from its funding makes me even prouder.
While there’s still plenty of work to be done to further support students during this ongoing transition, we can be proud of the progress we’ve made to get kids back in their classrooms. We’re on the road to healing from this pandemic and it’s thanks to the leadership of President Biden and my Democratic colleagues in Congress for getting us there.
I’ll continue to do everything I can to support families in my district and across Nevada as we navigate our way through COVID-19.
Thanks for reading,
Susie
