John,
The fossil fuel industry is building a massive pipeline that would transport close to a million barrels of tar sands per day from Canada to Wisconsin.
Not only does the Line 3 Pipeline cut right through pristine wetlands and the treaty territory of Anishinaabe peoples, Enbridge Energy, the company behind it, is also paying Minnesota police to brutally arrest protesters that stand in their way.
Using a disgusting tactic called “pain compliance”, they inflict searing, debilitating pain using pressure points until the protesters give in to the police demands.
One protester described the pain they inflicted as worse than childbirth.
This pipeline undermines tribal sovereignty, risks poisoning wetlands, and would do an untold amount of damage to the environment and local indigenous peoples.
At a time when global temperatures are rising and U.S. oil markets are saturated, the last thing we need is new fossil fuel infrastructure that makes it cheaper and quicker to use more oil.
Line 3 is environmental injustice and must be shut down.
Check out the heartwrenching video then stand with DFA as we demand President Biden stop the Line 3 Pipeline and protect protestors from torture at the hands of police.
Just like DAPL, Line 3 is being built without the tribe's consent, runs through the tribal lands, and will cause irreparable harm to fragile ecosystems.
We need to be phasing out the existing production of fossil fuels, not breaking ground on new projects.
Line 3 enables increased oil production and will have a disastrous impact on our climate, and the Anishinaabe peoples.
Over the past few months, the conversation around this project has flipped from basically being unknown to generating major opposition.
In the face of enormous public pressure, President Biden revoked permits for the dangerous Keystone Pipeline on his first day in office.
With enough public pressure against this massive fossil fuel project, we have a realistic chance of shutting this thing down for good.
Join the fight: Demand President Biden shut down the Line 3 Pipeline and order the Department of Justice to step in and stop local police from using “pain compliance” torture tactics.
We won’t let up until every fossil fuel project is shut down.
