Hi Team,

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, millions of hardworking Americans have struggled to provide for themselves and their families. But it’s not enough to just build back to where things were before the pandemic – we have to build back better.

That’s why I’m proud to have voted to advance President Biden’s Build Back Better plan out of committee -- bringing it one step closer to becoming law.

This bill will level the playing field for working families and grow our economy from the bottom up and middle out. By taxing the wealthy and large corporations their fair share, we will be able to create jobs, cut taxes, and lower costs for working families.

This crucial investment in Alabama’s future includes:

Increasing access to health care. Across the nation, 135 rural hospitals have closed since 2010. 7 of those were in Alabama. The Build Back Better Agenda expands Medicaid, lowers prescription drug costs, and reduces health insurance premiums -- ensuring rural Alabamians will have access to more affordable care. 

Extending tax cuts for families with children. I’m a firm believer in the saying “an investment in a child is an investment in our future.” The American Rescue Plan increased the child tax credit from $2,000 per child to $3,000 per child for children six and over and $3,600 for children under six. The Build Back Better agenda will extend this lifeline for Alabama’s families and bring us even closer to completely eliminating child poverty.

Lowering the cost of higher education. It is increasingly important to have education beyond high school to succeed in the 21st century. President Biden’s Build Back Better Agenda will make this necessity more affordable to working families by providing 2 free years of community college. This will boost the earnings of low-wage high school graduates by over $6,000 per year.

Investing in clean energy jobs. We only have one planet. We can work toward reversing our current climate crisis while investing in good paying jobs, and the Build Back Better Agenda would invest in strong workforce training for these vital new jobs while also establishing a clean energy standard.

Team, AL-07 can’t afford to miss out on these initiatives. Our children’s future depends on us investing in Alabama -- and the Build Back Better Agenda is that investment. I will continue to push for this historic legislation because holding it back is not an option.
