Hey John — there’s something happening in the news that we want your opinion on…
Former Fox News host John Stossel has been making viral videos on Facebook that spread misinformation about climate change.
One of his videos features a group of “researchers” who downplay the threat of climate change and tell everyone that there’s just not much to worry about. In another video, Stossel minimizes the impact that climate change plays in deadly wildfires — instead blaming the state of California for forestry mismanagement.
Facebook ended up taking action against these videos, putting “fact-checking” disclaimers that correct many of these claims. We know there are a lot of different viewpoints out there when it comes to tech companies and fact-checking, so we want to ask you. John: Do you support social media fact-checking misinformation about climate change?
Facebook also reduced the distribution of the fact-checked videos to minimize their spread. John Stossel is now suing Facebook for fact-checking his videos, saying that it cost him big money. Social media sites are massive distribution networks for information of all kinds, and we want to know what our supporters think about these platforms slowing the spread of misinformation — specifically as it relates to climate change.
What do you think? Should social media platforms reduce the distribution of fact-checked misinformation about climate change?

Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
