By now, you’ve most likely seen the news reports that the U.S. government is about to run out of money to spend. Basically, that just means we need to raise our debt ceiling, something we’ve done regularly for decades. 

In fact, Congress has actually raised the debt ceiling multiple times under then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell when Republicans were in control of the Senate — but now, Mitch McConnell’s obstruction extends even to this. 

The “deal” he struck Thursday just kicks the can down the road to December, so he can hold America’s full faith and credit hostage again soon. Of course, Senate Republicans followed suit — finally passing the short-term increase that will just lead us back to the same situation in three short months.

The health of our economy, which is still recovering from the impact of the pandemic, depends on nonpartisan action on the debt limit. But Mitch doesn’t care. 

Mitch McConnell may be willing to play politics with the future of our economy, but Eric is not. Will you contribute to Eric’s campaign today to send a message to Republicans that we need a long-term debt ceiling solution before it’s too late?

It’s hard to be surprised by GOP hypocrisy these days, but it’s almost unbelievable that the same Republicans who voted to blow up our deficit by passing $1.9 trillion dollars in tax cuts for the wealthy just a few years ago would be able to turn around and take such a dangerous stance now. 

It's past time that Mitch McConnell paid his debts.
