John,
Yesterday, Louis Mitchell and Leroy Grippen — who had been imprisoned for a combined 103 years in a Louisiana State Penitentiary — were finally able to go home.
Louis and Leroy originally pled guilty to avoid the death penalty with the expectation to be released after 10 years and 6 months on good behavior.
But then in 1973, the law in Louisiana unexpectedly changed. People like Louis, Leroy, and SO many others were kept incarcerated for decades — until yesterday.
New Orleans DA Jason Williams, someone who Real Justice proudly supported and advocated for during his election last year, has been working hard to free those who have been unjustly incarcerated for decades.
There are THOUSANDS of people out there like Louis and Leroy. We need to elect even more DAs who will free the wrongfully imprisoned and work to reshape our so-called “justice system.” To make it happen, we need your help.
DA Williams has already helped free Jermaine Hudson after he was incarcerated for decades due to being wrongfully accused. And now, he has helped free Louis and Leroy as well.
This is what happens when we elect principled DAs committed to bringing real, true justice to the people.
But we can't get complacent.
Already, wealthy right-wing billionaires are throwing everything they have into attacks against our movement because they know the work we do is making lasting change. We knew the attacks were coming but we need to stay vigilant and make sure we’re prepared to face whatever’s coming.
We’ve only accomplished what we have been able to do so far because of people like you. Thank you for standing with us in the fight.
Together,
Real Justice
