John,
When politicians prevent women from making our own health care decisions,
they are threatening our economic security. I’ll always support a women’s
right to choose, but that right is increasingly under attack.
Recently, Texas enacted a law that bans abortion after six weeks. As a
means of enforcement, it incentivizes regular Texans to interfere with a
woman’s private health decision with a potential $10,000 bounty. Earlier
this week that law was put on pause thanks to a lawsuit from the Justice
Department—but the legal battle over this is ongoing.
Restrictive abortion laws don’t end with Texas. In Mississippi, a state
law banning abortions after 15 weeks is being brought before the Supreme
Court this December (the standard set by Roe v. Wade is around 24 weeks).
If this law is deemed constitutional, the rights provided by Roe v. Wade
would be seriously undermined for women all across the country.
Amidst this news, last weekend I was proud to join the Women’s March in
Orange County to talk about people’s right to bodily autonomy. And last
month, I was glad the House passed the Women's Healthcare Protection Act,
which safeguards that very right. Unfortunately, this legislation is
stalled in the Senate.

Every American should be free to control their own reproductive health.
But with a conservative majority in the Supreme Court and many state
legislatures controlled by Republicans, that right is under attack.
Politicians should be protecting our freedoms, not taking them away—I’ll
always support a woman's right to choose. [ [link removed] ]Consider making a donation
